Colloidal Silver – A Safe Treatment For Lyme Disease?

Taken orally, the silver solution is absorbed from the mouth into the bloodstream, then transported quickly to the body cells. Swishing the solution under the tongue briefly before swallowing may result in faster absorption.
In three to four days the silver may accumulate in the tissues sufficiently for benefits to begin. Colloidal silver is eliminated by the kidneys, lymph system and bowel after several weeks. This doesn’t mean that taking colloidal silver will cure every disease caused by these germs. Colloidal silver must be in contact with the germ for a sufficient period of time to be effective, so patience must be employed.

I think that a high quality colloidal silver is wonderful for helping to kill spirochetes but I do not believe that it can cure anyone without extra help. I personally use a generator and use it for cuts, scrapes, sores, or if someone in the family feels a cold or virus attacking them…it is very gentle and effective. However most mixtures are not capable of getting deep enough.

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you!
Unfortunately there is no simple answer due to the wide variety of quality, strength and bioavailability. You are best off discussing it with your LLD or Naturopath or even a salesperson at a big healthfood store.
I am not a licensed medical practitioner so I can’t advise you, however, I can tell you a friend of mine made it himself and took 1/2 cup a day for three weeks and felt cured after that. He took mushroom infusions at the same time…I wish I could be more helpful.

I was treated for very early acute lyme with antibiotics for one month in 2001. Six months later I was diagnosed with sudden chronic fatique/fibromyalgia(mild joint and muscle pains and neurological symptoms in my hands). After doing self directed alternative treatments such as colloidal silver, fever baths, mercury removal, herbs etc. I was symptom free for 6 years. 6 weeks ago I was very sick with a virus and developed a round red rash at the same time. After 6 days of fever and 5 more days of severe pain on my upper left side, I was told my lyme test was positive and the MD prescribed Doxycycline. I now have mild joint and fleeting muscle pain. The brain fog was worse but is less now. I am hoping to get my MD to refill the doxy for another month. I bought some MesoSilver and plan on taking it too. My Natural Oriented Chiropractor told me not to take colloidal silver more than three weeks because it could cause disturbances in my body’s electrical/chemical balance. Have you heard of this. I was planning on taking the MesoSilver for 6 months to be sure to be over it. I do not know of a LLMD that takes my insurance plan and I do not have money to pay out of pocket for long term drug treatment. I am also taking cat’s claw through my chiropractor and immune complex and enzymes with acidophilis. I just need to rest assured that the MesoSilver treatment course is safe and then I will do it.

If the meso silver is helping you than that is what you need to stay on. I am not a licensed doctor, so this is just my opinion, but for most Lymies, the trouble is finding the protocol that is actually effective! Trust your instincts. If you were healthy for six years after your first attack, you can do it again! Hang in there and remember – you are not alone!

There is no medical evidence that colloidal silver is effective as a medical dietary supplement. However, friends who took it to cure acute lyme have reported that they are quite happy with the results so far, though taken in excess can cause skin to turn grey.

Medical “evidence” means many different things to many different people. To a person who has benefited from taking colloidal silver, the evidence is very personal and obvious. To the skeptic who needs double blind studies to determine “evidence” – well a skeptic will find fault with double blind studies…
People believe what they want to believe, but when you are suffering with Lyme disease and a new supplement makes you feel better…well, “the proof is in the pudding.”

I have a lot of experience with colloidal silver, and wanted to offer 2 helpful comments:
1) I recommend (although I’m not a doctor) taking concentrated colloidal silver. What you buy at the health food store is 10 – 15 parts per million. You can get high-volume colloidal silver generators online that produce 100 – 150 ppm and up to 200 – 300 ppm.
2) I have taken colloidal silver in the concentrations above for YEARS with NO BAD EFFECTS. I have not taken the colloidal silver much for the past 4 years now because I have not needed to. I was taking it for a systemic mold infection, and when I would have a really bad reoccurance from breathing in something that would feed it and make it grow, have even taken up to a quart in one day of the 100 – 150 ppm to kill the infection quickly.
Just sharing my experience here. I am not a licensed health practitioner. I really feel for those with major health problems, as I have really been through it.
Please always take a good probiotic supplement when taking anything like colloidal silver, goldenseal, echinacea, or anything that kills bacteria. These do not wipe out good bacteria the way antibiotics do, but it’s still good to take something like Dr. Ohira’s Probiotic 12+ which have been cultured for 3 – 5 YEARS before being encapsulated. They are the only kind I have taken that will actually live and grow and form colonies in your body again. http://www.crohns.net is the least expensive place I’ve found to buy them.

I post a comment to talk about the link for the economical silver generator you puted in your article : the generator is a shit.
Yellow ionic silver is not good at all. It has to be almost transparent. The only colloidals silvers that can be colorated and of a good quality are the commercial silvers that are mostly colloidal and produced by special techniques. (like mesosilver and some others)
But the silver produced by a low voltage generator is mostly ionic (80 to 90%), so it has to be clear.
And the silver must be produced with bidistillated water with nothing added inside except the electrodes. If not it can produce toxic compounds.
A generator to be good must have a current limitator. So the current running through the electrodes dont go over a certain limit. For littles electrodes that are wires that we can find in home generators it is usually 1mA. If you don’t do that you have to much current flowing in the electrodes, doing big size particles detaching of it, leading to a yellow color.
I built a generator by myself and it works. It has a limiting current composant and an automatic stop.
It is also possible to make with composants that cost 0.50€ and with a uSiemens meter a cheap basic colloidal silver generator, but that will produce quality silver.
Also I know a site where a generator is sold with all these functions for not so much. (you can tune the final ppm, automatic stop and regulated current)

PS : for me the colloidal/ionic silver is very powerful. I have the lyme disease and it give me strong herx each time I take it.
But I think that to be cured a big amount have to be taken. Like 300mL per day in separated takes. So it become too much expansive in my opinion to buy it, for me there is a need to make it by himself at a certain point.

Thanks Romain! Several books on colloidal silver say that the color can be gold but I am not an engineer nor a doctor. A friend swears the home-made gold CS he made cured his Lyme along with mushrooms but neither the gold nor the clear did a thing for me. We are all so unique and our immune systems fight our particular disease cocktail in our own special way.

In the beginning I was against taking colloidal silver because I have heavy metals issues.
But a friend introduced me to it. She made good progress with silver.
Im not engineer or doctor neither, but for my part I read that yellow silver was of a poor quality. I read also that if you add few drops of hydrogen peroxyde in yellow ionic silver it becomes clear again. This by splitting particles of silver or something like that. But it has to be done not just after the production of silver but after something like 12 hours after the production.
It’s intriguing that silver don’t give you herx. How much quantity did you took of it at the maximum? and in what ppm? Also, did you already tried a commercial colloidal silver?
And another question, I never found a real testimony of somebody having been cured of lyme with colloidal silver. i take it because after having tried many things, for me it’s the most powerful “alternative” antibiotic. So did your friend left a comment somewhere? I would be interested to read from how much time he was infected, what was is protocol to take silver, how many, etc…
Also I tried the antibiotics amoxicillin and tinidazole, and for me the silver acts very differently than amoxycillin. But is more close in effect of tinidazole. I think it acts more like a protein synthesys inhibitor than like a cell wall inhibitor.
And another thing : after having been trying mesosilver (a mostly colloidal silver), others commercials silvers that was mostly ionic and homemade silver, i didn’t seen so much difference.

How much ppm is your colloidal silver?
How do you take the silver? The 4mL in one time or splited during the day?
And you talk about a herx reaction. You had just one or many herx during the time you took the silver?

For me the best way to take colloidal silver, at least at the beginning of a treatment, is to take it in splitted doses every hours. And like 12 times in a day. I am persuaded that the silver as an ability to destroy the toxins emited by the dying bacterias and then taking it all hours permit the silver to limit the herxheimer reactions. I had this idea after having read a study on rats surviving thanks to silver to injections of botulin toxin that killed others rats that didn’t had silver.
Personally I take 150mL per day in 12 doses yet. But I began silver with only bottom of caps and it was sufficient to give me strong herxheimer reactions. My advise would be to take enough to have a herx, but not to much so you don’t have a too much strong and unsupportable herx.
The good thing is to have a timer or better a watch that rings every hours to remember you to take silver.

Just in the last 2 weeks. I had none for years. I take two 2 ml at 7 am and again at 3 pm. The ppm will be measured once unit arrives and it is on order.
Here is a summary of what I have been thru.
In the early 1980’s I had skin pain that that started as nerve problem that went up the spine and exited out the top of my head. The doctor (Dr. Preble) had been a partner with Dr. Raffa of Glastonbury. Blood test showed nothing so no medication was given. The lyme technology did not exist then it remains poor. There is not a good test now on the bacteria that causes the disease.
In March of 1987 I had an optic neuritis in the left eye and blood test showed zero. My doctor then was Dr. Diane Carta in Manchester. The tests were many and nothing was found wrong.
In March of 1993 my leg muscles would not function and in 2 weeks I went from playing basketball with 20 year olds full court to doing nothing with poor bladder control. A member of my church is a nurse and commented on looking into Lyme disease. I was scheduled to go to go to Bombay India in September 1993. I went to Dr. Kornelia Keszler.
The doctors there after an MRI said I had MS as they knew nothing about Lyme disease. The company I worked for out of CT (Pratt & Whitney) brought me out of India. I went to a neurologist in Middletown, CT and he said the test would show I had MS. After the MRI and spinal tap his comment what I was doing was working as there was no MS.
Now my legs are weak, field of vision poor having had 3 optic neuritis events. I need a nap often as I can fall asleep any time. I have difficulty in standing up, I have high temperatures, poor bladder control and double vision at times. I have had three optic neuritis events and just hope that there will be no more with the bioxin antibiotics. I can only walk slowly as my legs are weak and my nervous system works poorly.

Ive literally written the book on colloidal silver. And it is so frustrating how complicated a topic silver is, as it really is in my opinion the first things most lyme patients should try. Saved my life. In fact it still is keeping me alive. I have yet to see a single site that has entirely correct info on CS, including my own. I am currently going through what my high school english teachers would call “global revision“ of the CS book, and hope it will actually be the first place on the web that presents ALL valuable views about everything CS related. It will probably be another 6 months before I release a massively revised and expanded version of the book.
The premade silver product I would try first for lyme and co is called Silver 100. Besides that, I would make it myself with a generator.
I am currently working with some people who have succeeded in making silver ions at 40PPM. Current technology only allows up to about 22PPM, as in the product Argentyn23. If you make it at home, you can really only get like 10 or 15 PPM. I think that 40PPM could increase to 100PPM, as we fine tune the process also. Long term, I will be releasing this kind of generator. PPM is a critical factor in effectiveness. I am hopeful this could really change the game.

What is the interest to take or make 40ppm silver (except selling it more expansive to people) given that if you make 20ppm silver you just have to drink two times more to have the same effect than one single dose of 40ppm silver? The cost of the distilled water?
You say it by yourself in the document of your link!

It’s maybe true for the silver product, but not at all for a generator!
A good silver generator as to have a current limiter circuit, and to be easy to use an automatic stop at the concentration needed! And even better, a stirrer to mix the water during production.

That is exactly some of the wrong information I have on my site that I was mentioning needs “global revision”. Good eye catching it. Most people think that drinking twice of a say 10PPM solution is the same as drinking once of a 20PPM solution. I had also concluded that at the time of writing the website also. Know I know that it is actually incorrect. There are some anecdotes of people not getting well with homemade CS taken in large amounts, then getting well with taking this higher 40PPM brew sublingually (without even swallowing). A very bizarre observation that raises a lot of questions, and I still am trying to make sense of it.
If I came out with such a generator, it would be same price or cheaper as other generators. Besides, there will be complete plans made available to build it yourself if you wanted. I am also the kind of person who would give total cost transparency, and actually tell you what the actual cost of materials is.

It’s interesting. I heard of people taking it sublingually. When I was taking it I was letting it under my tongue. But I swallowed it after, to put all the chances on my side, lol.
The fact that by this way it doesn’t pass by the stomach could explain the difference in efficacity. It goes directly in the blood without beeing altered by gastric suc.
Personally I tried taking it with nebulizer. I was doing that with mesosilver. The result is not very conclusive, it take too much time to ingest even a little dose.
How time do you have to let it under the tongue to work?
And does somebody tried with classic 20PPM? It works less than 40PPM?
I can imagine it could be more efficient 40 ppm than 20 ppm this way.
One time I though to make evaporate 20ppm silver solution to make it more concentrated, just to see, lol. But I never tried.
With good homemade machine you can do already well concentrated silver. I estimate it to 25/30 ppm. But if it’s let at the sun it become yellow fast, it’s a little bit unstable. But it’s good if you drink it fast and the bottle put in the dark.
Can you tell me what is the main principle to make more concentrated silver? I’m interested. There are many many factors in effectiveness if the body. The immune systems interaction with silver, the route of administration, the type of silver supplements, the concentration and dose, etc, could all factor in at the same time. Also, just because you ingest something in one form, does not mean it stays in that form in the body. Silver can exist in several different states in the body, and all play a role.
When you swallow orally, it is always a good idea to hold sublingual for a minute first.
The saliva contains metalloprotiens that may grab, protect, and deliver silver ions in the body. This is one possibility with the sublingual working. There are so many questions though.
I have evaporated CS to make it more concentrated. I took about 10PPM CS jars and reduced it by a factor of 30 to make 300PPM silver content. It turns brown by that time. You have massive agglomeration (clumping of particles) by that time are of a size that due to various interactions with light create to the naked eye a brown color. Ingesting it upset my stomach and did not kill any bugs.
Home CS generators at current cannot make more than about 15 or at best 20PPM. 26PPM is likely the theoretical limit that one can achieve even in an idealized world.
The main secret to removing this limit of 26PPM is to use an ultra low current and take a very long time to make the brew. It is very difficult to do in practice and the guy that is working on it is basically working on it constantly. There is something called the Nernst diffusion layer. It is a super dense layer of ions just around both electrodes. One electrode is blanketed in silver ions and the other in hydroxide ions. When some of these ions migrate across to the opposite electrodes respectively, they cannot pass through the Nernst layer and reach the electrode. They instead combine to form AgOH. These AgOH molecules then clump together and form particles. These are what the particles are in CS. They are not metallic silver.
However there is a threshhold current density under which the nernst diffusion layer never gets dense enough to force this reaction of ions. Without out this reaction, there is nothing to keep an infinite amount of silver ions from entering the solution, in theory. In ordinary CS generators, at some point, this threshold is exceeded, and the further silver ions you add to the solution just end up going towards making more AgOH. This is why the conductance peaks at some point during production.

I am not english, so I don’t understand exactly : What you say is that the solution of silver become brown at 300ppm? So before, it stays clear? It is good to use this method to produce 40 ppm silver?
I setup my generator to not exced 1mA of current. I don’t have here the surfaces of my electrodes (it’s not so big, it’s wires of 10/15 cm in water and like 1.5mm thick). And my method is not very accurate but by taste i think I made a concentration higher than 20 ppm. And the solution was still clear.
I didn’t knew that the conductivity reach a threshold at a time.
And so if I understand well, the thing that make a silver solution unstable is the number of AgOH molecules that tend to clump? If the silver is made perfectly with much ions than AgOH molecules it as less tendancy to become yellowish with time and light?
With your explaination I understand best the interest to add a stirrer in the recipient.
If you don’t want to keep it secret, what are the scale orders of current and surface to use to obtain this kind of reaction?

PS : I think that if it’s the hypothetic metalloproteins contained in the saliva that makes the silver more active in the body, the concentration of silver would not make a difference.
But maybe a difference of concentration could make a difference at passing the muquous membranes. Like an osmotic thing, and a better penetration with a greater concentration.
I think It’s an important phenomena. Brown tobacco goes this way in blood when you don’t breath it, like pipe, cigarillos…
The best technique is still by the way to inject it directly into the veins, but it’s a little bit hardcore style

Yes, when evaporing CS it goes from clear to brown eventually. There is no reason to believe a more concentrated solution like this is more effective per mass of silver ingested. I was just trying it “just in case”.
I have not tried to make say 40PPM CS this way. Perhaps it is worth a try. It should be evaporated slowly to concentrate it. If it is still clear at the end, then perhaps the ion concentration has increased. I cannot be sure of this though.
At home, you cannot make better than about 15 PPM with the better generators.
It is the maximum current density (not the maximum current) that matters. And this critical number will be different depending on the geometry of each different generator. So I could not tell you at all what it is. You just have to try lots of currents.
I think your explanation about AgOH is correct (at least in my understanding).
The thing to look for that indicates you are going in the right direction with regards to making higher ion content is that when you are finished making the CS, the measurable drop in conductance will be much less over the next couple days than the measurable drop one usually sees with a generator. This indicates less AgOH was formed (meaning you are brewing under the Nernst Threshold for longer).
A Hanna Pure Water Tester can measure conductance and approximate PPM quite well. You can read about that in my book.
Yes, an osmotic thing might an interesting factor to consider also.
